Philadelphia, PA- In response to President Trump’s recent takeover of the Washington, D.C. police force, despite the objections of the city’s mayor, State Senator Art Haywood  (D-4) announced plans to introduce legislation to shield Pennsylvania police departments from similar federal overreach.

President Trump has pledged to take control of police operations in other cities. Senator Haywood’s legislation will establish protections against any federal attempt to seize control of Pennsylvania law enforcement agencies without state or local consent. The bill will affirm the Commonwealth’s commitment to community-led policing and local accountability.

“The importance of allowing for local control of our law enforcement agencies cannot be overstated,” said Haywood. “When law enforcement is rooted in the community, they protect the safety and dignity of us and our neighbors. We cannot allow our dignity to be subject to the criminal President’s agenda.”

Senator Haywood plans to introduce this legislation in the coming weeks. He calls all his colleagues in the Senate to join him in defending Pennsylvania’s Police.
