DESCRIPTION:We are sponsoring a poetry contest with a prize. The District-4 Human Dignity Poetry Prize will be awarded to a resident within the district who creates an exceptional poem on the meaning of human dignity. As a component of our Dignity Agenda\, the Poetry Prize will highlight perspectives of “dignity\,” identity\, and community through our neighbors. The deadline for submission is August 7th. SUMMARY:1964 Civil Rights Act 60th Year Anniversary Commemoration
DESCRIPTION:Join Senator Hughes and me for our event commemorating the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  That legislation ended 100 years of legal segregation that kept Africans as second-class citizens and out of public libraries\, out of many jobs\, out of many restaurants\, out of many hotels\, out of most of higher education. We will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss the impact of the Civil Rights Act in our lives today.
