Our Solutions: Reading Revolution Recap
We have successfully finished another year of the summer reading initiatives in the district. Thank you to the parents and staff who worked hard to ensure several of our Northwest recreation centers as well as McCloskey Elementary and Wister Elementary schools were filled with children improving their literacy and math skills. We assisted 246 children to read this summer. At the completion of this year’s program, we have now helped over 900 children avoid the summer slide!
Please continue to join the Reading Revolution throughout the year by visiting your local library, reading to your child at night, and participating in reading challenges. Your child can go anywhere they want through the pages of a book. There is no limit where their imagination can take them. |

Open House on Addiction
Last September we hosted out first Open House on Addiction in Cheltenham Township. This month we will have two Open Houses on Addiction, one in Montgomery County with State Rep. Ben Sanchez, and one in Philly with State Rep. Chris Rabb. The Pennsylvania Harm Reduction Coalition will join us again this year. Please spread the word and encourage your neighbors, friends, and loved ones to attend. We have the power to combat the opioid crisis in our community.
A Healthy School Year: Fruits & Veggies Grants to Philly Schools
Roosevelt Elementary School and West Oak Lane Charter School have been awarded over $72,000 in grants for fresh fruits and vegetables. The funds were awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program to provide healthier options during the school year.
“Children are better prepared to learn when they have access to healthy food choices during their day,” Governor Wolf said. “By expanding breakfast programs, offering reduced-price meals and providing fresh produce, we’re improving the conditions to help students succeed.”
Thank you, Governor Wolf and Secretary Rivera, for bringing healthy food to Pennsylvania children this school year.
