Our Solutions—Raising the Wage

MLK Day of Action

Sen. Haywood Hosts Raise the Wage Rally on Martin Luther King, Jr. DayOver 50 neighbors joined Pastors Matthies and Holston, Congressman Evans, State Rep. Rabb, State Rep. Kenyatta, Councilwoman Gym, John Meyerson, Terrence Wiggins and me on MLK Day at McDonald’s on 29 E. Chelten Avenue in Germantown to demand that they raise the minimum pay to $15 per hour. We rallied in 12-degree weather for our hardworking neighbors who reportedly earn as little as $7.25 per hour—poverty pay. Following the rally, I met with a McDonald’s representative in Harrisburg to start a discussion on changes. Please join me to make McDonald’s end poverty pay.

Sen. Haywood Comments on Gov. Wolf’s 2019-20 Budget AddressBudget Address

Governor Wolf announced his priorities for 2019-20 fiscal year during his budget address in Harrisburg on 5 February. Raising the minimum wage to $12 now, creating stronger educational opportunities, and building the strongest workforce in the nation are among his priorities.

The Governor Wolf budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year is a good start.
