Victory for Domestic Violence Victims
The PA Senate approved the House bill that disarms individuals who have a protection from abuse order against them for domestic violence. The guns must be turned over to law enforcement or certain lawyers within 24 hours of the court order. This historic legislation now moves to Governor Wolf for his signature.
Gun violence prevention advocate group Moms Demand Action said: “Over the last four years, domestic violence survivors, law enforcement officials, local elected officials and people across the state fought tirelessly for this bill to become law. Our legislature listened…passing this legislation will save lives.”

Manufacturing Day Roundtable
My office recently learned that over 3,000 jobs are open in manufacturing in Southeastern PA. Today we hosted a Manufacturing Day roundtable discussion at Arcadia University to focus on fixing the pipeline to good jobs. A focus of the roundtable discussion was Governor Wolf’s PASmart Initiative. The PASmart Initiative is intended to strengthen investments in Pennsylvania manufacturing, increase the number of apprenticeships, and support S.T.E.M. education. Our goal is to help job seekers obtain good, middle-class jobs in 21st century careers.
Carol Kilko, Deputy Secretary for Business and Financing for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and panelist for the roundtable discussion said: “DCED appreciated the invitation to speak to Senator Haywood’s constituents about the various programs DCED offers to assist manufacturers in the southeast region. We are seeing Governor Wolf’s commitment play out through several key programs and initiatives, including Manufacturing PA. It involves DCED’s strategic partners, including the Industrial Resource Centers (IRCs); Pennsylvania’s colleges, universities and technical schools; and nonprofit organizations providing critical training and workforce development opportunities to support the manufacturing industry and its workforce.”
