New Year, New Beginning
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are ready for a New Year that promises some great things in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties.
My staff and I are committed to serving our constituents, so we did not want to wait until after I was sworn-in to open our office. We have been serving constituents since 8 December and look forward to assisting you.
Come visit us and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee or tea while we serve you.

We will keep you posted on this exciting initiative. Until then, we are prepared to serve all of our constituents in our current locations.

Legislative Updates
On 19 December, I held my first press conference at Germantown Life Enrichment Center, to announce my intent to sponsor legislation that will require the attorney general to appoint a special prosecutor whenever there is a deadly force incident involving a police officer. Watch the press conference.
The law enforcement community does a courageous job every day to protect the public, but the perception of bias in these cases is eroding our trust in the justice system. We must restore trust within our communities. I am meeting with community members and leaders, my fellow legislators, and law enforcement officials to develop a path to that end.
In addition to my work to restore trust in our justice system this month, I attended a national meeting of American State Legislators for Gun Violence Prevention in Washington D.C. I will continue to work with my fellow legislators to develop solutions to the challenge of gun violence, particularly where domestic violence is involved.

Swearing-In

I was sworn-in on January 6, 2015 in Harrisburg. I am honored to be your Senator and want to thank
you for your support. You made it possible, and I am committed to serving you and hearing your ideas about how my staff and I can improve.

Constituent Service Corner
Did you know that our office can help you obtain assistance paying your heating bill this winter? If you qualify for a grant to pay energy bills (LIHEAP), we can help you fill out the application. The deadline for completing the application is April 3, 2015. Please stop by the office and we will be happy to assist you.

Community Engagement Meetings
On 4 December we held a meeting to develop an action plan to build support for raising the minimum wage. Public support for raising the minimum wage is crucial to getting legislation passed.
Next week, we will hold our second community engagement meeting to raise the wage. I invite you to attend.
